About Me
I've signed myself up for something I might fail at entirely—run 50 miles around Lake Tahoe on July 21, 2012. So, I'm also signing myself up for something I know I can accomplish—with your help—raise $5,000 for First Descents.
FD directly supports young adults, ages 18 to 39, who are among the fastest growing demographic with cancer and the least progress in cure rates over the last 25 years. With $5,000, we'll send five cancer fighters and survivors on a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle and surf to reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same.
Two years ago, I ran my first marathon and raised over $6,000 for First Descents in memory of my dad, Robert Grenville Distin, Jr., who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 37 and passed away in 1996 but not before imparting his love for adventure and the outdoors to me and my sweet sister, Katie. Katie will be running the last 20 miles of the race with me—it will be the longest distance she's ever run, too.
The last time around, over 100 of you donated an average of $60 each. With a few large donations in the mix, this means that lots of contributions around $10 or $15 added up quickly—every dollar helps. If you want to support us by the mile, $70 (50 miles for me + 20 for Katie) is a nice round number, don't you think? Please make your tax-deductible donation today. I'm hoping to start my 50 miles on the 21st knowing that at least this has been accomplished.
Thank you!
