Hellen Keller said, "Life is either a great adventure, or nothing at all."

I never quite understood the gravity of that statement until I stumbled upon First Descents in 2008. My life was in a downward spiral. Reeling from a cancer diagnosis in my mid twenties, and after burying more friends than I ever imagined possible I was on a destructive path. When I embarked on my first adventure with FD in 2009, my life was given new meaning.

First Descents is a free outdoor adventure therapy program for young adults ages 18-39 who have or have had cancer. FD has opened up my world in ways that never could have existed. Many of my friends and family know how this organization has affected my life. You know the rapids I have paddled, the rocks I have rappelled from, and the mountains I have climbed. You have participated every year in helping me raise money to send new campers to their first FREE FD program.
