About Me

Anybody who knew Meira knew that she was always up for adventure. She was constantly pushing her own limits and challenging her friends and family to keep up with her. When she was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer of the connective tissue, she never let her condition get in the way of living her life. Nothing made her feel more alive than our trip to Costa Rica to celebrate our "Cancerversary!" Somebody who didn't know her would never have believed that this spunky and energetic 28-year-old had just recovered from 3 major surgeries and was in the middle of a grueling chemotherapy regimen. 

First Descents gives cancer patients the opportunity to challenge themselves physically and mentally through outdoor adventure experiences. Thanks to the support of donors like you their programs are provided at no cost. FD participants walk away empowered knowing that life doesn't need to wait until treatment is done.
